A boho chic wedding, a whole lot of joy, and one toast I'd never seen before.

Some weddings have a moment that steals the show. Sara and Joe's had a whole day of them.

I've photographed a lot of weddings at this point in my career, and I can count on one hand the days where genuinely everything went right. Not "went fine." Went right. The weather cooperated, the timeline held, and every single person in that wedding party showed up ready to have the best day of their lives. This was one of those days, and it happened at The Aisling in Hudson, Wisconsin, which might be my favorite venue to shoot in this state. More on that later.

A Boho Chic Wedding at The Aisling

Sara and Joe described their vibe as boho chic going in, and it showed up everywhere without ever feeling like a theme. Loose, natural florals from Cutting Garden, a gown from The Wedding Shoppe that felt effortless instead of fussy, and a venue that leans into a relaxed, ready-for-you aesthetic. It's a style that photographs beautifully because it doesn't fight the light or the space, it just lets both do the work.

The Energy Was the Whole Story

If you've met Sara and Joe, you already know. If you haven't, here's the short version: they bring the hype. Not in a loud, performative way. In a "everyone around them is having a better time because they're there" way. Their friends and family matched that energy all day, which made my job easy and genuinely fun. I say this a lot, but I'll say it again: the couples who are relaxed and having a good time are the ones who end up with the best photos. Joy photographs well. Stress doesn't.

A Something Blue Ceremony I'd Never Seen Before

Here's the part of the day that stuck with me. Before the wedding, Sara pulled together everyone who mattered to her but wasn't standing up in the ceremony. Friends, family, people who'd shaped her life but didn't have an official role in the wedding party. She hosted a small champagne toast just for them. A "something blue" ceremony, she called it.

Then she gave a speech. A real one. Not a toast full of inside jokes, but something genuinely moving, thanking these people for showing up for her long before the wedding day existed. I've photographed a lot of weddings and I'd never seen anything quite like it. It's the kind of detail that doesn't show up on a venue's website or a Pinterest board, and it's exactly why I love photographing weddings. The best moments are the ones nobody planned for the camera.

A Day Worth Remembering

By the end of the night, I'd photographed a lot of dancing, a lot of hugging, and at least one moment where I had to stop and just watch instead of photograph because it was that good. That's rare, I'm usually working non-stop. This one, I got to enjoy a little extra.
